Bootcamper Data File: Melissa James

Name: Melissa James

Writes: Harlequin Romance, Suspenseful Historical Mainstream

Call sign: (ie nickname) Um, haven't had one since called "Freckle Bum Junior" in high school. :) Friends call me Lis.

Current mood: Excited! Going on holiday tomorrow. Can't wait.

Reading: "The Terror Before Trafalgar" by Tom Pocock - a bio on the life of Lord Nelson, and the times in England and France just before the outbreak of war in 1803. It is research! Also reading "Lucia: A Venetian Life in Napoleonic Times" by Andrea di Robilant. More research!

Inspiration: Sharon Penman, Elizabeth Chadwick, JRR Tolkien, Nigel Tranter

Web hang outs: Only historical research places! I'm a technophobe and not really into blogs and stuff. We do download shows like Fringe though - where we live it's always 2 years behind.

Favourite food when writing: Duh...chocolate!!! Peppermint tea is always good too.

Music listening to: "The Romantic Violin" by Joshua Bell

Watching: "The Little Dictator" with Charlie Chaplin (really!). I also love Fringe, NCIS, CSI...

Working on: "Dark Waltz" - mainstream historical suspense set in 1803

Mission Report: Melissa James

One of the great things about being a boot camper is that we have fantastic mentors. One of whom is the awesome Melissa James. Melissa's career is barrelling forward. Her latest releases for M&B are, One Small Miracle released downunder in May 2010. A Wish and a Wedding with the legendary Margaret Way, in July/August and The Sheik's Destiny in August/September 2010. Melissa has also found herself and agent to represent her in her mainstream work, her name, Eleanor Jackson of Markson Thoma. Melissa is thrilled to have her but I believe Eleanor is privileged to have Melissa. I'm sure it will be a long and industrious union. More good news for Melissa, is that from one page of a m/s, one page, she has THREE editors wanting to read the full. Megan Rocords of Kensington. Jessica Sebor of Bantam Dell and Margo Lipschutz of HQN. What a trio. Melissa, we wait along with you, with fingers crossed and hearts full of hope. Congratulations. Till next time, remember:

BOOTCAMPERS ROCK.

Fireman Charlie Costa knows all about duty and saving lives. But when he learns he is a prince who must marry to secure his nation, Charlie rebels! He doesn't want to be King, or to marry Princess Jazmine... no matter how beautiful she is. Charlie's rough manners and bad-boy charm don't deceive Princess Jazmine for a minute. He might fool others that he's a rebel, but she knows the real Charlie: kind, generous, and a man who's truly fit to be King. Will Charlie claim his crown... and the Princess he's promised to?
