June Book in a Month

It's been a bit quiet on the Bootcamper blog this month as a fair number of us are participating in the June Book in a Month Challenge. The idea started with National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWrMo as its known, held in November every year.

Those of us down under decided Winter would be a much better time to hold a novel writing challenge and decided on June. Brisbane has turned on a selection of fine days for our challenge, with cold clear nights just perfect for using the laptop, while snuggled under a home made quilt with a hot chocolate (we don't own a heater up here in the Sunshine State).

So how are we doing so far? Pretty good, wouldn't you agree team? We're all working through individual goals, rather than the stock standard 50000 word count. And most of us are on track to meet our targets.

Wish us luck.

Get Ready for a BIAM

In June, we are going to be doing a BIAM (Book in a Month) challenge. Alison will be our BIAM mum and we are sending through our goals. Luckily this falls at the same time as 50Ks in 30 days, and so I will be reporting to both (hmmm....accountability), and I believe other Bootcampers will be doing the same thing.

So what do we do?

Write!!!

And then report in on a weekly basis on our progress. Of course there is an outpouring of support as always. And a little prodding along the way too. After all, what are friends for.

We'll let you know how we go at the end of June.

Bootcampers, get ready, get set......

Book in a Month Challenge

Here at Bootcamp, we are a third of the way through our October Book in a Month Challenge and the word counts are starting to add up.

If you’re interested in trying to write a book in a month, November is National Novel Writing Month and you can register on the NaNoWrMo website http://www.nanowrimo.org/.

The Romance Writers of Australia also have a group dedicated to writing 50K in 30 days http://writeinjune.blogspot.com/. They participate in NaNoWrMo and also run a June challenge, taking advantage of cosying up next to the heater in the Australian winter.

So if you want to try turning off your internal editor and writing to a deadline, the book in a month challenge is the one for you.

October Book in a Month

In October, Tracey is leading some of the Bootcampers in a "Book in a Month" Challenge. We've spent today limbering up, setting our goals and organising the rest of our lives to make sure we're focused and ready to write.

Good luck to all our BIAM participants. Here's hoping we all get some regular one-on-one time with our muse and our writing flows.

Wow!  What a month!  April was BIAM (Book in a Month) month for Bootcamp 101.  All up we had 11 Bootcampers and one honourary camper (go Cassandra Pennington!!!) participate.  Together we wrote over 112,000 words!!!  We had some star achievers, too!  Nikki Logan took out the BIAM First Place Pro Award with Melissa James taking second place.  In the Semi Pro category newcomer Fiona Gregory took first place and Alison Leake second!   An honourable mention was handed out to Anne Newton, who wrote during amazing hardships and inspired us all!  (Go Anne-you rock!!!)

Participants include:  Anne Newton, Eleni Konstantine, Rachel Bailey, Fiona Gregory,  Alison Leake, Jacqueline Wilson, Nikki Logan, Tracey Turner, Melissa James, Rosie Smiles, Cassandra Pennington, and Dana Scully.

First place finishers took home Darrel Lea red heart awards.  Chocolate goodness to nourish the writer’s soul!!!

Even those who did not achieve placing are counted as winners, having written more than blank pages and received Bootcamp BIAM bookmarks!!!

Amazing accomplishments ladies!!!  Way to go!!!  But wait-there’s more to come…the incomparable Nikki Logan has set another BIAM challenge for May, so look out for further manuscript accomplishments in coming posts!!!

 As always Bootcamp Rocks!!!

April is BIAM month

The 101ers have been busy undertaking a BIAM (Book In A Month). Now while it would be great to actually write a book in a month, that may not be realistic. So what it basically means is to try and reach your individual target for the month, whether it be 20K or a page a day.

Dana is busy keeping us in line ;))

Everyone who is participating is having some great results. So we will let you know how it goes at the end of the month - and who the Champion will be.
